Serenity From the Hive: The Burning of a Beeswax Candle

Serenity From the Hive: The Burning of a Beeswax Candle

As the days grow shorter and the darker months beckon, I feel a deep appreciation for the importance of self-care and the light it brings into our lives. With daylight savings time ending in November and less daylight in each day, I find myself yearning for warmth and comfort.   Do you?

As a child growing up on the Dutchman's Gold honeybee farm, I learned that after the honey harvest was complete in the fall, I could look forward to my dad delivering buckets of left over beeswax to my mother.  Cappings wax is a by-product of honey extraction and we'd be left with hundreds of pounds of this sweet smelling wax.

My mom would carefully warm it up on the kitchen stove and then gently run it through cotton filters to clean it.   She'd then lovingly pour it into her home-made moulds, crafting beautiful beeswax pillars, votives and tea lights that we'd burn all winter long.  (She'd also put some wax aside for her homemade Beeswax Body Butter cream)

Beeswax candles were a source of light, warmth, and serenity for my family growing up.  We lit candles every night and I've now carried on this tradition with my children.  It is my hope that we can pass on this candlelight tradition to you, our extended family.

WHY BURN BEESWAX?

Beeswax burns cleaner than other candles such as soy or coconut, leaving behind no soot or toxins, ensuring that the air you breathe remains pure and free from impurities. The natural scent of beeswax creates an atmosphere of comfort and calm, offering a respite from the outside world. These candles also emit negative ions, helping to cleanse the air and promote overall well-being.

Dutchman's Golds collection of beeswax candles, handcrafted with love and care, reflect our commitment to brightening your home, soothing your soul, and providing cleaner air for your cherished family. From decorative mason jar candles to elegant taper candles, each piece is a testament to the traditions that have been passed down through generations.

CELEBRATIONS

This November, we join in the celebration of Diwali, which falls on November 12th. Diwali, known as the Festival of Lights, is a time for the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil. It's a reminder that, even in the darkest moments, we can find hope and joy. Lighting a beeswax candle is one way to connect with the spirit of Diwali and bring the warmth of tradition into your own life.

As the days grow shorter and the nights longer, we invite you to embrace the beauty of the darker months with us. I, along with my family at Dutchman's Gold, am committed to continuing the legacy of our beeswax candles and sharing their beauty and comfort with you. May your days be filled with the radiant glow of our candles and the warmth of cherished traditions. Enjoy the season, and cultural celebrations including Diwali, and may your heart be warmed by the magic of a beeswax candle!
